Willie Limond took the WBU Lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Londoner Ryan Barrett at Glasgow’s Thistle Hotel on May 29th.
Despite Barrett’s height and reach advantage the 30 year old Scotsman went looking from the start and dominated proceedings throughout the contest.
Limond held the center of the ring for most of the fight, coming forward with an effective jab and some good body shots. Limond kept very busy throughout and the frustrated Barrett could find no answer relying on optimistic left hooks that were no trouble for Limond.
The fight seemed destined to go the 12 rounds. Limond was busy and tactical and as the rounds built up it seemed less and less likely that Barrett would end the show with a single punch.
By the end of the bout it was no surprise that a unanimous decision was awarded to Limond. The judges scores being 117-113 (Karl Rogers), 117-111 (Micky Vann), 118-113 (Larry O’Connell)
